Netflix Garnishes 14 Emmy Nominations – WOT 188

The Waves of Tech is here for Episode 188!  This week, we talk in-depth regarding the news of Netflix garnishing 14 Emmy nominations.  This feat is monumental considering Netflix is the first non-televised program to be nominated for the prestigious award.  We finish by discussing the TSA joining Instagram and posting a stream of confiscated weapons from travelers.  We hope you enjoy the latest installment of The Waves of Tech. Netflix receives 14 Emmy nominations (http://www.bostonglobe.com/arts/television/2013/07/18/with-emmy-award-nominations-netflix-house/GQtSZvKCDlZMtEfMsrL42J/story.html) & Netflix Profits Rocket Up (http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-57594932-93/netflix-profit-rockets-higher-but-user-gains-take-slower-ride/) If you haven’t heard of House of Cards, Arrested Development, or Hemlock Grove, you are soon going to be familiar with the shows.  These shows are a production of Netflix and the company has been nominated for 14 Emmy’s for their work in the fields of show, writing, directing, production, and acting.  This is monumental because Netflix, the shows, and their actors are the first to be recognized by the television industry for a program that has never been broadcast on television.  We have talked for years that it was a matter of time until a new media type company, one that is versed in streaming and improving the consumer experience, will turn heads in the broadcasting and entertainment business. The standard approach to content delivery is slowly dying and a new model is taking center stage.  Will you be watching come Emmy time to watch this groundbreaking event? TSA joins Instagram (http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2013/07/03/tsa-joins-instagram-to-post-all-weapons-people-still-bring-to-airports/) In a very interesting move of education and information, the TSA has joined Instagram and Twitter (@tsablogteam) to provide the flying and non-flying public a snapshot of the types of weapons being confiscating from passengers and airport visitors.  The account is a bit unsettling and settling at the same time.  It’s refreshing to know that the TSA is still finding passengers carrying weapons and protecting the flying public safe.  Feel free to check out the account.  What are your thoughts - is it helpful or useless?
